“…it often felt like my self-esteem and spirit would be slowly crushed in silence…”Oof.

Such a good read. This makes me understand my love of TS and her wordsmithing better. Just like TS lyrics, after I read this I’ll go back to the start and begin again. 🫶🏼

Wow. This post is a work of art. It feels like I am reading the more-eloquent-version-of-me’s diary. Now I need to re-read and also re-listen to every song mentioned in the post 🤔

Thank you for what you do ♥️

I already commented but just wanted to add that while reading all of Kate’s great picks of TS lyrics to write about, I was reminded of how my brother-in-law always mocks the line “band-aids don't fix bullet holes.”I don’t think it’s a bad metaphor! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thank you for this Kate! I mostly read along going “yes!” and “exactly!”

Thank you so much for sharing this!!! I LOVED your book so much but was so surprised there was no Taylor Swift chapter. So glad to finally get to read it! Since the very first time one of my middle school besties played Teardrops on my Guitar for my sister and I on our parent's old desktop computer I have been obsessed with her songwriting. I'm fairly confident that every crush, relationship, breakup and so many of my thought and feelings over the subsequent years have been defined, influenced, or enhanced by these lyrics. They are everything to me. Thanks for sharing!!!

Thank you for writing this! I loved it!! While "I was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere" was in TIMT, not in Mirrorball, it definitely could be!! For some reason the line "The jokes weren't funny, I took the money, my friends from home don't know what to say" gets stuck in my head ALL the time, it's not even a turn of phrase or metaphor so I have no idea why! Another one I love is "time won't fly, it's like I'm paralyzed by it, I'd like to be my old self again, but I'm still trying to find it," as it reminds me of how I felt after my pregnancy losses.

I am currently listening to your audiobook so this is perfectly timed. I love Taylor too and will be sending this to all of my fellow Swiftie besties. You’re the best Kate! You always have been.
